ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted at Livestock Research Centre (LRC), ICAR-NDRI, Karnal To find out the effect of poly herbal mixture supplementation on postpartum productive performance in KF cows. Thirty multiparous calved KF cows were chosen and divided into three groups, 10 cows in each group. One group was considered as control (C) and other two as treatment groups (T1 and T2). The control (C) group cows were offered the ration as per the standard feeding schedule (ICAR, 2013). The treatment group (T1 and T2) cows were offered the same ration and then additionally the polyherbal mixture combination (25 g each of the herbals + 25g black salt + 250g jaggery) as a treatment for the first 10 and 20 days postpartum period in T1 and T2 group, respectively. The productive related parameters, such as 60 days total milk yield (60 DTMY), peak yield (PY), days to peak yields (DPY), milk compositions and production disorders were recorded in 60 days of postpartum period. The treatment groups, 60 DTMY, PY and DPY were increased as compared to control group. Milk fat % and SNF % of treatment groups (T1 and T2) were more or less similar, if compared with the control group. Milk lactose % of T1 and milk protein% of T2 were significantly (P≤0.05) higher at 60th day of lactation. The productive disorders incidence was also very low in treatment groups (T1 and T2) during the 60 days postpartum period

ABSTRACT

Andrographis stenophylla C.B. Cclarke (Acanthaceae) leaves are commonly used as folk medicine in south India. The present study is planned to determine the oral hypoglycemic activity of dichloroethane (DCE) extract of Andrographis stenophylla leaves. The Andrographis stenophylla leaves showed high yield extract values in DCE, DCM (dichloromethane) and carbinol. The DCE extract showed clear compound separation in thin layer chromatography, hence that extract was used for phytochemical analysis and pharmacological study. The DCE extract showed significant oral hypoglycemic activity in rats. The present study concludes, the DCE extract of Andrographis stenophylla leaves are suitable for isolate the terpene and it’s showed significant oral hypoglycaemic activity.

ABSTRACT

Histiocytosis is a term applied to a group of rare disorders of the reticuloendothelial system. Eosinophilic granuloma, the most benign and localized of the three Langerhans cell histiocytosis entities, may be solitary or multiple. Eosinophilic granuloma can affect almost any bone, but commonly involves the mandible when the jaws are affected. Conventional treatment of LCH is with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and steroid injections, alone or in combination. Spontaneous regression of localized disease has also been reported. We report a six and a half-year-old patient with Langerhans cell histiocytosis--solitary eosinophilic granuloma of the mandible that initially regressed but rapidly recurred even after radical treatment and had a fatal outcome.

ABSTRACT

To correlate sodium-potassium levels in saliva of pediatric patients having different intensities of toothache assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) in age group 3-14 yrs. A prospective study of 50 children having different intensities of pain was carried out in the Dept. of Pedodontics, Sareetha Dental College and Hospital. 50 children (aged 3-14 yrs) having different intensities of toothache including normal children (control) were included in the study. Saliva samples were collected and Na+, K+ levels in saliva were measured by using Na+, k+ colorimeter kit. Photographs were taken using Digital camera and VAS was prepared accordingly. Sodium levels decreased with increasing pain intensity and potassium levels increased, facial expressions correlated with Na+, K+ levels. Correlation between Na+, K+ levels and pain intensity exists. Also, VAS is a valid measure for pain.

ABSTRACT

Hemangiomas of the liver are often incidental findings on routine abdominal ultrasonography. Majority are single and asymptomatic. We report a patient with diffuse hemangiomatosis of the liver who presented with thrombocytopenia and congestive cardiac failure.
